SANE Appreciation
June 1st, 2026
It's time to shine the spotlight on one of our amazing Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE), Monique Arseneault!
With 7 years of nursing experience, Monique currently works with the Resource Team at Strait Richmond Hospital. Her clinical background includes geriatrics, acute medicine and emergency care, complemented by previous experience in public safety, security and crisis response.
After relocating to Cape Breton from the Toronto area three years ago following the COVID-19 pandemic, Monique embraced a new pace of life while continuing her commitment to patient care.
Family support has played an important role throughout her career, helping shape a deep appreciation for compassionate, patient-centred practice. Monique values trauma-informed care and feels honoured to be part of the SANE team, supporting individuals during some of their most vulnerable moments.
Thank you for the care, dedication and expertise you bring to our program and community, Monique

Congratulations, Anna!

Please join us in congratulating Anna Penny, who graduated from Cape Breton University with her Bachelor of Science in Psychology, completing a thesis and presenting her research in Newfoundland!
Anna currently works with our Almost Home Housing Program, and previously worked with our Centre last summer as our Summer Day Camp Coordinator, where she took on many responsibilities, including planning engaging events and outings for campers, fostering meaningful connections with each child, and helping create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all. Anna’s dedication, leadership, and positive impact on both campers and staff made her an amazing part of our team!
Anna is someone who genuinely cares deeply for those around her. She has a natural ability to uplift others through her kindness, encouragement, and thoughtful words. Whether offering support, sharing positive comments, or simply being there for someone when they need it, Anna consistently makes others feel valued and appreciated. Her caring and compassionate nature leaves a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Congratulations, Anna! Your future is incredibly bright, and we cannot wait to see all that you accomplish. Wishing you continued success, happiness, and endless opportunities in this exciting next chapter!
CFNA Conference
May 28th, 2026
Investing in continuing education is an important part of providing the best possible care to our community.
This week, two of our SANE's had the opportunity to attend the CFNA (Canadian Forensic Nursing Association) Conference in NFLD, where they connected with colleagues from across the country, expanded their knowledge and explored current best practices in forensic nursing.
Opportunities like this strengthen our program by supporting ongoing learning, professional growth and collaboration within the forensic nursing community. We are proud to support our nurses in continuing to build their skills and expertise to better serve survivors in our community.
Thank you to our nurses for their dedication and commitment to this important work!

Congratulations, Pretty!

Please join us in congratulating Pretty Philip, who graduated from Cape Breton University with her Bachelor of Business Administration!
Pretty previously worked with our Centre as our Human Resources Assistant, going above and beyond to support both staff and clients at our Centre. She was always eager to take on any task presented to her, working with our team and assisting with programs and events such as our Summer Day Camp, Back to School Program, Adopt a Family Program, International Women's Day Concert and Celebration, and much more!
Throughout her time with us, Pretty consistently demonstrated kindness, professionalism, initiative, and a genuine passion for helping others. Her positive attitude and willingness to lend a hand wherever needed made a meaningful impact on both our team and the community we serve.
Our staff are thrilled to have had the opportunity to work alongside Pretty and are incredibly proud of all she has accomplished. We have no doubt that she has a very bright future ahead of her, and we wish her continued success in all of her future endeavors. Congratulations, Pretty!
