SANE Appreciation

We would like to take a moment to shine the spotlight on one of our Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners to let her know just how much we appreciate her hard work and dedication to the Every Woman's Centre SANE Program!

Emily has been a Registered Nurse for 10 years and joined the SANE team in 2018 when the program first expanded to Cape Breton. For Emily, being a SANE is more than just a role; it is a profound commitment and responsibility that extends beyond the bedside and into her research as a PhD student at Queen's University.

"As a SANE, I have the privilege of being with victims/survivors in moments of unimaginable vulnerability. Our team ensures every client is met with dignity, compassion, and choice. We strive to create spaces where victims/survivors are heard, believed, and empowered." (Emily MacLeod)

"What I love most about this work is the quiet strength in moments of care—the reassurance in a steady presence, the power in restoring autonomy and control, and the ability to remind someone that they are not alone. To my fellow SANEs, thank you for the work you do every day. To victims/survivors, please know: your voice and story matter, your experience is valid, and we are here to support you. Always." (Emily MacLeod)

We are beyond grateful for the dedication and commitment Emily has given to the SANE Program over the last seven years!
